Where have I been?

What have I been doing?

Apparently, unbeknownst to me, almost a month has seemingly passed without even so as a Hello. I don’t know where it’s gone but I can tell you for sure it isn’t coming back, and neither will the time I have lost writing.

As you will be aware, judging from the last time I updated you, I haven’t posted in almost a month. Three weeks to be half-precise (I fear exact number of days are a bit too precise?)

In that time, I haven’t touched anything. All systems shut down. Like the scene in Star Wars when the Death Star is getting ready to destroy Alderaan, as everything sounds as though it is shutting down, that is what happened to me.

There are a number of reasons for this. The first being that I was probably doing too much work: updating the blog, editing a manuscript, and completing another, all while trying to accomplish the rather large task of short stories. It eventually got a bit too much and subsequently… Well you know the rest.

There were also some other personal reasons why this hiatus took place, but rather that is…well, personal isn’t it!

To fill the void of absent-writing, I rekindled my adoration for sudoku. Surprisingly, they took up most of the time I would have previously used for writing, as I needed to be doing something, but right then writing wasn’t it.

For the first time today, I continued writing, and it felt wonderful. I can’t explain the feeling, which, for an author is pretty poor.

A wealth of excitement, passion and furore tumbled over me, encapsulating me and whirling me around the washing machine of words (that was better wasn’t it?).

Perhaps, imagine you’ve been reading a really good book, you’re halfway through and have had to stop for some particular reason (or many, whatever), and then one day you come back to said book and find yourself exhilarated by the characters, the plot and everything else you enjoyed about the book. Good, huh?

That is what I appreciated this morning. Now, I might not have written as many words as I’d have usually liked, but it is a start, and I need to get back in to the swing of things at some point… So why not start now!?

Anywho, the hiatus has now been lifted and normal precedings can resume.

He hopes.

Will keep you posted. Unfortunately, the dreaded stage of editing isn’t nearly as complete as it should have been, but this is a gradual process I have come to learn and must be treated as such.

  1. This is so random of me to comment but I have to tell you that I just came across your blog and that I love it! Honestly, you have a lovely website here and I am so happy I have discovered it! I am going to follow you so I can keep up to date with all of your posts. Keep up the great work!

  2. Good to see you back Jack. I can completely understand your recent sentiments and need to switch off for a while, I’ve done the same thing in the past. I’ve recently prepared two of my books for submission to Createspace to self-publish in paperback. Alongside that I’m daft enough to have three blogs, and a husband to look after! Dust gathers! The bath needs cleaning! I hope we don’t get any visitors!

I absolutely understand that feeling of starting writing after a break. I think it’s like a muscle, it feels great to flex it and get it working again. A real joy. And I love your ‘washing machine of words’!
